Craig Griffith (Director of feature film 'Through The
Looking Glass' winner of Best Horror Film at Swansea Film
Festival)
‘’I first worked with Tom when he mixed my feature film
Through The Looking Glass'...He has brought a sense of
professionalism and a keen knowledge of craft to every
project he has worked on and does not settle for second
best. He is not afraid to experiment and has a knack of
always making the sound feel organic, real and a natural
part of the project...Tom is easy to work with and always
delivers exactly what I want as well as suggesting many
ideas the improved the project greatly.’’
Chris Evans on Through The Looking Glass Blog ‘’ The
sound mix has seen Re-Recording Mixer Thomas Joyce holed up
for the past three months working solidly. Tom's commitment
has been inspirational for Director Craig especially given
how important the overall sound is to the film. Sound is
everything to the film. Without good sound the film
wouldn't have the emotional impact it has and wouldn't be
anywhere near as scary. Tom has done a fantastic job
bringing the film to life and creating a soundtrack based
in reality, which works on so many dynamic levels. It
really gets in your head and from my point of view
absolutely underpins the film with a sense of
believability. This really helps to sell the horror when it
happens. Tom has without a doubt brought a huge amount to
the film.’’
Alex W (Director of Bafta nominated short film 'Ralph' that
was also part of BFI Film Festival)
‘’I am an independent
filmmaker currently working on a half hour drama for
Channel 4. The sound was a complete mess on my film 'Ralph'
before Tom saved it. We shot on an intersection between
several busy roads and most of the dialogue was inaudible.
Tom rescued an enormous amount of the original performances
and blended in the ADR seamlessly. On an artistic level Tom
created a layered and authentic soundscape, which gave the
film an incredible atmosphere. Tom was easy to work with
and extremely inventive but most of all, he had a great ear
for how to help the story. The film has since been accepted
into several festivals including Edinburgh, London, New
York and Sao Paulo.’’
Enda
Mullen (Editor / Producer of BBC's 'Imagine' series)
‘’Having
worked with Tom on the flagship BBC Arts programme
'Imagine', I can't believe anyone else could have done such
a sensitive and dynamic mix. The programme contained
concert footage, backstage, obs doc, interviews and archive
- all of which Tom treated superbly. He was able to take
direction as well as adding his own ideas (all of which we
used). Able to work on his own as well as with all of our
team, Tom did an amazing job, and I know everyone at the
BBC agreed.’’
Mark Hawtin (Director of short film
'Nightshift')
‘’Over the past two years, I have had the pleasure of
working with Tom on both documentary and drama
work. Toms creativity and proactive attitude makes him
top of my list of sound designers in London. He is
creative, imaginative, speedy and personable - all of the
essential ingredients of first
class colleague.’’
‘’...You’ve
delivered a wonderful, gripping, and technically sound
product, and met the deadline. You've proven to me that
you're unquestionably reliable, and maintained absolute
attention to detail...I wanted you to know that I believe
you're one of the best dubbing mixers in Soho, and you have
my unconditional support in any of your
future endeavours...’’ via email
